Getting started

New to barefoot shoes?

Start quietly. Let the feet come with you. Your first pair needs space, time and an honest fit — we meet you where you are.

The first weeks

Short walks

Not a full workday on day one

The transition

Weeks to months

Muscles need to settle — not leap

Toe room

There are no silly questions

Most people find us because something in their old shoes no longer makes sense — sore toes, tired feet, or simple curiosity. That is a good place to start.

At Footfolk we take our time. In the Odder showroom in Denmark you can try, feel and ask until it sits right. Online we help with size and model so you are not guessing in the dark.

How to start

  1. 1

Pick one pair for everyday — not three at once. The feet should learn one thing at a time.

  2. 2

Measure standing in the afternoon, then use the inner-length chart on the product. Add 10–12 mm in front of the longest toe.

  3. 3

Walk indoors first. You have 90 days from delivery. The original box has to come back if you exchange — so keep it.

  4. 4

Add time when it feels easy. Ache in the arch and calves is normal. Sharp pain is a stop.

What we correct most often

  • Too small. Barefoot shoes need air in front of the toes — they should not sit like a pump.
  • Too much, too soon. A long walk in week one is the classic overload.
  • Expecting cushioning. The thin sole is the point. The ground should be felt, not swallowed.
  • Comparing with old sneakers. Last and inner length are different. Use the chart on the product.

If you are unsure, the showroom is the easiest place to start. We keep stock on site, and we will say so if a pair is not the right one — even when that means you leave without a bag.
